Japanese Garden Plan:
This design was created for a class
project in March 2006. I used the inspiration of
Japanese tea garden landscapes to create a Northwest
design. Texture, simplicity, and form are the objectives
of this design style. The pathway through the garden
leads the visitor on a journey that is both physical and
spiritual. This minimalistic garden style is very useful
for small residential lots

Soltman Plan:
This design was created for a client with a half acre
site heavily wooded with Douglas Fir trees. The client
wanted seasonal color and interest, native plants, low
maintenance, privacy screening, a campground feel, deck
design, and a smooth transition between the house, lawn,
and woods. A firepit patio, compost area, pathways
threading through the trees, and native and ornamental
plants were included in the final design. The woods were
brought to the house through the use of vine maples,
pines, and native plants. Color was added to the
landscape by using brightly colored foliage on many of
the plants, including the spirea and ninebark. Creeping
Oregon grape and salal were used as groundcovers to
provide additional color, interest, and natural feeling.
